Ranked Targeting Choices Now Survive Reconnects

Online Outpost now preserves server-authoritative multi-step card choices across reloads for both ranked seats, with corrected browser state-version transport and expanded Season 2 rules coverage.

The Online Outpost has reached a new ranked-stability checkpoint. Multi-step card effects no longer depend on a temporary client prompt: the authoritative server now stores the unfinished choice, signs it with the match state, and returns it when either player reconnects.

A Durable Two-Step Card Contract

Targeted Spells and Items can now commit their cost and card play first, then resolve their required choices through a separate authoritative action. While a choice is open, unrelated actions such as End Turn are blocked. Optional multi-target effects can finish early only when their rules explicitly allow it.

Both Ranked Seats See the Same Legal Table

The Godot and browser clients rebuild pending creature, hero, Cover Token, and empty Cover-lane targets from signed match metadata. Player-two ownership is remapped into the local view, including the keys used to exclude targets that were already selected before a reload.

The table highlights only legal choices, preserves Gnome flip clocks and transformed-card state, and restores the targeting prompt instead of leaving a reconnected match stuck between actions.

Browser Transport Is Versioned

The legacy browser client was still attempting to save ranked actions with a timestamp field that the current API no longer accepts. It now sends the match's numeric state version and keeps saves serialized, matching the server's compare-and-swap contract. The same transport code has been synchronized into the current mobile shells.

Rules Audit Fixes in the Same Pass

Named summon effects now preserve the keyword printed on their tokens: Fuse-Pups keep Ambush and summoned Scarecrows keep Warrant. Flip-Charged Golem Tokens now count as Golems for later synergies, and Obsidian Roundhouse's self-repair restores itself rather than another damaged Golem.

Verification and Remaining Gates

The current checkpoint passes all 11 Godot suites and 121 website, desktop, browser, authority, security, and release tests. Both Godot web editions also export under their browser payload limits.

This is an implemented browser-beta milestone, not the final Online Outpost or Steam release. Real two-account production reconnect and load testing, broader card-behavior conformance, generalized modifier expiry, Windows launch and signing, Steamworks integration, and a successful Steam depot upload remain release gates on the public roadmap.

Practice without an account in Showdown, or sign in through the Online Outpost to enter the ranked beta.
